As electronic medical records and storage of data explodes the privacy regulations of HIPAA continue to be highlighted. THe article below points to the digital copier as a privacy issue. They will probably need to dispose of the hard drives and make sure there is limited access to avoid any violations.

Dennis - do they store the copied information as if they were to scan the document? I know they scan my medical card and copy my license so my info is in someone's hand anyway. If it makes it easier to have the information on the computer and saves time in the long run I don't have a problem with it. My medical history is not that interesting and my data is already out there! At our pediatricians everything is in their laptops and on their network, secure yes, but nothing is fool proof! I signed up for a credit card and had to put my SSN into the computer, now I'm so freaked about privacy I could barely do it!
